SEPTC - Over 20 Years of STD Training 1988 - 2010
The Southeast STD/HIV Prevention Training Center (SEPTC) - formerly the Florida STD/HIV PTC - is a joint project of the Florida Department of Health Bureau of STD Prevention and Control, University of South Florida College of Medicine Division of Infectious Disease and International Medicine, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Center was created in 1988 in response to Florida's significant STD morbidity with initial funding from the CDC. The Center was funded solely by the state of Florida beginning in 1992 and, at that time, was the only state-supported STD/HIV PTC in the nation. In May 2000 the Florida PTC received funding again from the CDC to become part of the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers, and was refunded again by the CDC in April 2006. SEPTC offers training for healthcare providers in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including HIV.
